Ribbon cut at Goodwill’s Young Adult Opportunity Center, new home of The Spot in downtown Louisville
LOUISVILLE, KY. – On Wednesday, October 23, Louisville Mayor Greenberg joined other elected officials and leaders from Goodwill and KentuckianaWorks to officially cut the ribbon at the new Goodwill Young Adult Opportunity Center. The center is located at 216 W. Chestnut Street, Louisville, Kentucky 40202.
The Young Adult Opportunity Center, one of Goodwill’s 12 statewide Opportunity Centers, is tailored to meet the needs of young adults ages 16-24 who have barriers to employment and self-sufficiency created by justice-involvement, homelessness, abuse and/or other challenges. It features a variety of free career and educational resources, including The Spot, which is a partnership with KentuckianaWorks, the workforce development board for the Louisville region.
“This program is essential in helping us connect disenfranchised young people with the resources they need to be successful,” said Mayor Greenberg. “It’s a team effort to ensure public health, safety and economic development opportunities are available in every neighborhood in every corner of this community, and partnerships like this one help make that possible.”
The Young Adult Opportunity Center and The Spot offer a variety of services, including barrier identification, soft skills training, educational assistance, behavioral and mental health services, legal assistance and expungement, digital and financial literacy training, resume writing and mock interviewing, personal branding, paid internships, job placement and much more.
“I am thrilled to officially welcome the community to the new Young Adult Opportunity Center,” said Goodwill Director of Young Adult Services Nicole McGill. “This space was created to give disconnected youth an environment where they can thrive, build connections and discover their potential. We strongly believe in empowering young adults who have faced challenges in finding their path. We can’t wait to see the positive impact this center will have on our youth and the community.”
